Janka hardness is approximately 1,010 lbf — firm enough for real work without being punishing to shape.

Walnut can be used raw for most builds, though stabilized pairs are also available for makers who want the extra insurance against moisture movement. Both matched and bookmatched pairs are stocked in 5×2×0.25" and 5×1.5×0.25" dimensions. Bookmatched walnut with figured grain is especially striking once finished.
