How long does your wood stabilization service take?

Accepted Answer

Standard turnaround is 4–6 weeks from receipt of your blanks. Rush turnaround is available when scheduling permits — note it in your quote request. You ship your blanks to me and I ship them back stabilized.

What moisture content should my blanks be before sending them?

Accepted Answer

Blanks should be at or below 9% moisture content (MC). Wood that is too wet will not absorb resin properly. If you are unsure of MC or your blanks are freshly cut, note it in the form — drying service is available for a small additional charge.

Which wood species can be stabilized?

Accepted Answer

Soft, porous species stabilize well: figured maple, box elder burl, black limba, lacewood, buckeye burl, birch burl, and most spalted or punky woods. Dense, oily species — bloodwood, padauk, purpleheart, cocobolo, tigerwood — do not stabilize well and are generally not worth the cost.

How should I package my blanks for shipping?

Accepted Answer

Wrap each blank in bubble wrap or foam, pack tightly in a box with no movement, and include your contact info and any notes about the wood. USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground both work. Include a return shipping label if you have one, or I can use your account or invoice for return shipping.
