About Bolivian Rosewood

Rich chocolate-brown with purple undertones; dense, very hard, and polishes to a mirror finish.

In the hand, Bolivian Rosewood is dense and substantial — the kind of handle that feels like it will outlast the blade. It's harder to shape than softer woods, but modern power tools make it workable, and the result takes an exceptional polish. Virtually impervious to everyday wear, moisture, and impact.

Stabilization & Treatment

Bolivian Rosewood sits in the middle ground. Stabilized pairs are the smarter long-term choice — especially for knives that will see outdoor, kitchen, or high-humidity use. Raw Bolivian Rosewood works well too if you're planning to apply your own oil finish. When in doubt, go stabilized: it won't hurt and will only add durability and peace of mind.

At ExoticScales, we stabilize using Cactus Juice resin — the same process used by professional scale makers. Each piece is cured under vacuum and heat, producing a hard, sealed blank that machines cleanly and takes a beautiful finish.

Available at ExoticScales

Bolivian Rosewood scales are available in 5" × 2" × ¼" and 5" × 1.5" × ¼", fitting the vast majority of full-tang knife blanks. We carry matched pairs and — where the grain allows — bookmatched pairs. Highly figured and one-of-a-kind pieces sell quickly.
