About Padauk
Brilliant orange-red that patinas to deep reddish-brown; dense enough to skip stabilization.
Padauk strikes a good balance between workability and durability. It shapes and drills easily with standard woodworking tools, takes a smooth finish without tear-out, and feels comfortable in the hand β not too heavy, not too light for full-tang knives.
Stabilization & Treatment
Padauk is naturally rich in oils β the same oils that give it its distinctive luster and inherent durability also prevent stabilization resin from penetrating. This is a feature, not a limitation. Those natural oils protect the wood from moisture and give it built-in durability without any treatment. We stock Padauk raw only, which is the correct and traditional form for this species.
